]]>The Coolest Thing Made in Iowa is an annual competition sponsored by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) and Midwest One Bank. The competition was created to be a fun and lighthearted way to showcase the impressive diversity of products manufactured in Iowa and to promote manufacturing careers. The competition began on March 25, 2024 with a call for nominations. On April 19, the 68 nominees were announced, and the variety of products ran the gamut, from Gourmet Dog Treats to Bourbon to a Tiki Bar Boat to NASCAR Wheels to a John Deere See & Spray. Next began several rounds of popular voting to determine the eventual winner.
Bodine nominated our type 34B6BXBL-FX gearmotor as The Coolest Thing Made in Iowa. It is one of Bodine’s newer products and the fact that it is explosion-proof increases its “coolness” factor. It is made in Bodine’s main manufacturing location in Peosta, Iowa and is bought by customers in the Oil & Gas Industry, the Marijuana Processing Industry, the Laboratory Equipment Industry, and the Chemical Processing Industry. You can learn more about the Explosion-Proof Gearmotor from the special page on our website. And you can learn more about one of the applications for this product from this Engineered Solutions story.
Bodine’s Explosion-Proof Gearmotor advanced to the Top 8. We were absolutely thrilled with the support we got and with how far we got in the competition, given the impressive number of cool products made in Iowa. The eventual winner was announced on June 5 and was the Vermeer ZR5-1200 Self-Propelled Baler. We at Bodine Electric Company extend our sincere congratulations to Vermeer on their achievement.

]]>Bodine Electric Company exhibited at the AUTOMATE 2024 trade show at McCormick Place in Chicago from Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 9, 2024. A team of eight people from Bodine’s sales and marketing departments took turns greeting visitors to our booth number 2180 during the four days.
AUTOMATE is the largest robotics and automation trade show in North America. Robots were definitely the stars of the show, but other products included conveyors, gearmotors like Bodine’s, and other components like encoders and connectors. The Association for Advancing Automation (A3) – the host of the event – expected the 2024 show in Chicago to be 25% larger than the previous record-setting show in Detroit in 2023.
Bodine Electric displayed our newest products at the AUTOMATE show. Shown above are our new type “56R” stainless steel gearmotor, our type “34B” explosion-proof gearmotor (which is currently in a competition to be “The Coolest Thing Made in Iowa“), our type “33A” 12 volt DC parallel shaft gearmotor, our type “22B” brushless DC planetary gearmotor (with encoder mounted), our new type “42B” brushless DC hypoid right angle gearmotor with hollow output shaft, and our type “42R” offset parallel shaft gearmotor with hollow output shaft (with matching shaft kit). One “product” we gave away to visitors was a rubber coffee mug coaster that said, “My design starts with Coffee and ends with Bodine.”
The AUTOMATE show was a great opportunity for Bodine Electric to interact face-to-face with customers, prospects, suppliers, and media partners. One of those media partners, WTWH Media, invited us to their happy hour at The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant after the first day of the show.
Thank you to everyone who visited Bodine Electric at AUTOMATE 2024!

]]>A manufacturer of CBD distillation equipment required a gearmotor to precisely control the flow and speed of liquid material through their new distillation apparatus.
Working with an authorized Bodine distributor and our sales team, the manufacturer selected several of our variable speed AC inverter duty gearmotors, combined with inverter drives (VFDs) and a PLC control to drive the pumps and stirring mechanism within the distillation system. Earlier versions of the equipment used a competitor’s brush-type DC motor and control system. By replacing them with Bodine AC inverter-duty gearmotors, the manufacturer eliminated both brush maintenance and the noise associated with brushed DC motors.
Now also available from Bodine: new Class I/Div 2 AC inverter-duty and fixed speed (PSC) 34R-FX gearmotors, and CI/Div1 “Explosion-Proof” AC inverter-duty and low-voltage BLDC type 34R-FX gearmotors and 34R6BX motors.

]]>In three short months, the Coronavirus has spread across the world affecting businesses in all industries and all demographics. At Bodine Electric Company, we have multiple facilities in United States, as well as a subsidiary operation in Suzhou, China – all of which have been fortunate in not having any severe impacts due to the spread of the Coronavirus up to now, yet the situation is likely to change daily.
As more states continue to issue orders that close non-essential businesses, we want to let you know that Bodine Electric Company is operating as close to normal as circumstances permit. As a valued supplier of gearmotors, motors and electronic control products to critical infrastructure industries such as healthcare, lab equipment, restaurant equipment, warehouse operations and energy production, we understand it is vital to keep supply chains in operation.
If your business is viewed as “essential” or part of the “critical Infrastructure sectors” we would greatly appreciate a letter affirming Bodine Electric Company as an essential supplier to your business. This will also allow us to prioritize our resources to meet the needs of those essential industries.
While we keep operations running, we maintain the health and safety of all employees as a top priority. We have enabled remote working where possible and as technology allows. In areas where remote working is not possible, such as the manufacturing floor, we are utilizing best practice guidelines from the CDC and OSHA to implement appropriate policies and procedures such as social distancing and focus on improved hygiene and environmental cleaning.
We realize that this situation is a dynamic one and subject to constant change. At this point our mitigation efforts and advance planning activities appear to be working and we foresee only minor impact on our customers in terms of meeting their demand for Bodine Electric products. Those matters that may be impacted include the following:
We want to take this time to wish, you, your employees and your company well in this uncertain time. We thank you for your past business and will do our best to retain your confidence as a valued supplier in the future. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me, your Regional Sales Manager, or any member of our Customer Service Team.
Best Regards,
Michael Gschwind,
Vice President, Sales & Marketing

]]>The post Planetary Gearmotors Deliver Precise Motion appeared first on Bodine - Gearmotor Blog.
]]>A manufacturer of mobile antenna systems required two gearmotors to position the antenna to connect to orbiting telecommunications satellites. The gearmotors deliver precise motion during the initial calibration with the satellite, and then remain idle until the antenna is moved to a new location. These mobile dish antennae are often used in remote locations to broadcast news or sports events, or for emergency and military communications, therefore the gearmotors needed to be able to operate in harsh outdoors environments and run from a 24 VDC power source.
Our design team recommended a Bodine type 24A-60P planetary PMDC gearmotor with custom wiring, shaft, mounting and encoder. The gearmotors provide high torque and precise motion, are small enough to fit the portable application, are efficient, and proved to be a more cost competitive solution.
Bodine brings over 114 years of problem solving experience to a wide range of applications in industries as diverse as energy production, medical, packaging, industrial automation, and solar powered outdoors equipment. We look forward to working with you on your next fractional-horsepower gearmotor design challenge.
